Lil Sprout’s 8th Birthday – Let’s Make Faces

Colours:

Every colour?!? But yellow was highlighted (pun not intended) a little more than the rest.

Location:

Away from home this year at 4Cats Beaches! In past years, it was a celebration for everyone – my daughter, her friends, their siblings, and their parents. This year, we went for a smaller group where the friends could be dropped off and the parents had the freedom to do as they liked.

Food:

Our time at 4Cats began at 2:30, between lunch and dinner – so snacks were in order:

  • Cheese & Crackers
  • Vegetable Tray
  • Fruit

We were in a time crunch and were so glad that we could grab the prepared trays of fruit and vegetables from Metro. Earlier in the week, I also bought cheese sticks – because everyone loves a good cheese stick – and a couple boxes of crackers.

Cake? Of course! And Cookies Too!

I always trust Tianna of Coco Cake Co to design a cake. I provide her with the theme, colours, and an inspiration picture … “et voila!” … a delicious masterpiece.

Each child took an emoji cookie home and got to enjoy a mini from the cake. Ahem, the smiling devil is mine.

Decorations:

Simple since the studio is already decorated beautifully.

  • rainbow table cloth from a previous party … it even had paint on it!
  • emoji decorated cups to hold yellow cutlery from Dollarama
  • emoji paper plates and napkins from Dollarama

Activities:

This was a ‘My Besties Party‘ where each child got to create a 3D personalized clay mini-me figurine. They made two each – one for them to keep (mounted on a 3″x5″ panel) and the other for the birthday girl. The final group masterpiece that the birthday girl keeps is mounted onto a 8×16 frame.

Loot Bags:

I checked the local dollar stores but nothing seemed useful. So we ended up going with:

  • Pencil, sharpener, and notepad from Party City
  • Emoji Cookie created by Coco Cake Co.

4Cats also provided a little loot bag (oops … I didn’t know!) with molding clay and stickers.

Highs/Lows:

LOW – A few close friends were missing and I know the birthday girl will be sad that they are not on the final masterpiece.

HIGH – Everyone loved the activity and were super-focused on their personal creations. The staff member Jess was patient and great with the kids. I would book a party with them again in a heartbeat.

Other things we might have tried:

  • Creating an emoji mask from cardstock
  • Making a drawing of the 3D creation to take home. It takes a few days for the creations to set/harden so friends can’t take them home straight away.
